Nawazuddin Siddiqui, one of Bollywood’s most acclaimed actors, is known today for his powerful performances and raw authenticity. But his journey to stardom was filled with struggle and rejection. In a recent chat with YouTuber Raj Shamani, the Raees actor revealed how his early on-screen roles which he was often beaten up or humiliated once made his father uncomfortable and even led to a long rift between them.
A Father’s Pride and a Son’s Struggle
“In the beginning, I was always getting beaten up,” Nawaz recalled. “In Sarfarosh and Munna Bhai MBBS, I played petty thieves or background characters who got thrashed. People in my village told my father, ‘Your son keeps getting beaten in films.’ He got very tense and said, ‘Then stop coming home after getting beaten up.’ I was so hurt that I didn’t visit for three years.”
The Turning Point- Gangs of Wasseypur
His father’s perception changed dramatically after Gangs of Wasseypur. Nawazuddin’s fiery performance as Faizal Khan won him national acclaim. “After that film, I went home and asked him, ‘So, what now?’ He smiled and said, ‘Yes, this time you did a good job.’”
What’s Next for Nawaz
Recently seen in the horror-comedy Thamma alongside Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, Nawaz continues to explore diverse genres. His upcoming projects include Faraar, Section 108, Blind Babu, Noorani Chehra, and Sangeen.
A Journey of Grit and Grace
