On the eve of the United States presidential election, one Twitter trend that left everyone confused and surprised was the quintessential North Indian dish - paneer tikka. And the reason behind it will leave you in splits.

On the night before the election, US Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal shared a picture of her 'comfort food' – Paneer Tikka. This was particularly in honor of Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Kamala Harris who had recently revealed that her favorite North Indian dish is "any kind of tikka". She also shared the recipe in the following tweet.

However, her version of the dish raised eyebrows and all hell broke loose as netizens started poking fun at her. Memes started flooding in and Desi Foodies left no stone unturned to make her realise that it wasn’t the traditional Paneer Tikka which is famous across the globe.

Like Kamala Harris, Ms. Jayapal has her roots in Chennai too. She was born in Tamil Nadu and immigrated to the United States in 1982, at the age of 16.
