A Romance Lost in Translation

Written by the celebrated Hong sisters—Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran—and directed by Yoo Young-eun, the series premieres on Netflix this Friday. The drama follows Joo Ho-jin, a multilingual interpreter played by Kim Seon-ho, who finds himself entangled in an unexpected romance with global celebrity Cha Mu-hee, portrayed by Go Youn-jung.

As the trio travels the world filming a dating show alongside Japanese actor Hiro, played by Sota Fukushi, Ho-jin’s professional boundaries blur when his own emotions enter the mix.

From Viral Smiles to New Moments

Seon-ho became an internet sensation after a scene from When Life Gives You Tangerines—where his character smiles warmly upon seeing his girlfriend in a wedding dress—went viral worldwide. Reflecting on the unexpected trend, he admitted it felt surreal to see fans recreating that moment across social media.

When asked if he hopes for similar buzz this time, the actor pointed to two scenes featuring Go Youn-jung. One involves her softly saying “aurora,” while another shows her mimicking a bobble-head cat toy. “I hope those scenes go viral,” he said with a smile.

Living Many Lives Through Acting

Now 39, Seon-ho credits his journey through theatre and supporting roles in dramas like Good Manager, Two Cops, and The Strongest Deliveryman for shaping his craft before global fame arrived with Start-Up in 2020. “I enjoy living different lives through my characters,” he shared. For him, seeing fans enjoy his work—and the characters he becomes—remains the most rewarding part of acting.
