In a year filled with blockbuster clashes and box office surprises, one film has emerged as the undisputed champion. Kantara Chapter 1, directed by Rishab Shetty, has stormed past Chhaava to claim the title of 2025’s highest-grossing Indian film, crossing a staggering Rs 800 crore worldwide. The film’s blend of mythology, mysticism, and raw emotion has struck gold once again, proving that lightning can indeed strike twice.
Kantara’s Meteoric Box Office Rise
According to Hombale Films, the studio behind Kantara Chapter 1, the film collected a massive Rs 717 crore globally within its first two weeks. In its third weekend alone, it added another Rs 38 crore net in India, followed by Rs 92 crore more worldwide over the next six days pushing its total earnings to Rs 809 crore. This figure surpasses Chhaava’s lifetime total of Rs 807 crore.
However, some industry trackers like Sacnilk estimate the number slightly lower, placing its worldwide total around Rs 775 crore after 21 days. Regardless of the minor discrepancies, one thing is certain Kantara Chapter 1 has become a box office phenomenon. The film has earned Rs 556.75 crore net in India and $13 million overseas, with an English-language version set to release later this month.

A Cultural Phenomenon Continues
Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, Kantara Chapter 1 expands the mystical universe of the 2022 blockbuster Kantara. With powerful performances by Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah, the film cements Kannada cinema’s growing dominance in the pan-Indian space, proving once again that powerful storytelling transcends boundaries.
