Deepika Breaks Her Silence on Movie Exits

In a recent interview, Deepika Padukone finally addressed the speculation surrounding her withdrawal from Spirit and the Kalki 2898 AD sequel. She revealed that her decision stemmed from concerns over excessive working hours and the lack of structured schedules in the industry.

Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Deepika said her request for an 8-hour work shift was viewed unfavourably - a demand she pointed out is routine for many male stars. “By virtue of being a woman, if that’s coming across as pushy or whatever, then so be it. But it is no secret that a lot of superstars, male superstars, in the Indian film industry, have been working for eight hours for years, and it’s never made headlines,” she said.

Deepika also spoke candidly about the gender bias and disorganisation prevalent in Bollywood, asserting that while the film world is called an “industry,” it often lacks professional systems, fairness, and work-life balance.

She clarified that her decision was not impulsive but rooted in respect for healthy work culture and professionalism.
