A Return Rooted in the Past?

Imran Khan shared the screen with Deepika Padukone in Break Ke Baad, which hit theatres on November 25, 2010. Now, nearly 15 years later, Imran is not just stepping back into the industry - he’s teaming up once again with director Danish Aslam, who helmed the original.

What makes the reunion even more intriguing is that their new project appears to explore exactly what the Break Ke Baad team would be up to 15 years later, creating a natural bridge between the past and present.

Imran Reflects on His Comeback Film

During an interview with Hindustan Times, Imran opened up about how deeply personal this project is for him and Danish Aslam.

He shared, “The movie is just like what the Break Ke Baad team would be doing 15 years later in life. It’s a natural progression. Danish and I now have collective life experience. He’s been married, I’ve been through a divorce. It’s just the film we should make 15 years later. This is very much a personal project that came from the creative urge of wanting to tell a story and working with dear friends. The shoot is complete and it’s in post-production. We are looking at releasing it once the streaming platform decides the date.”

The actor’s words confirm not just the emotional core of the film but also its evolution from lived experiences.

How Bhumi Pednekar Joined the Ensemble?

Imran also spoke about bringing Bhumi Pednekar into the fold. He revealed, “It was a co-creative decision. We all agreed on her and what she would bring to the film. We were very upfront about it. She brought a good vibe to the set and it was the same with Gurfateh (Pirzada). In fact, this is the happiest set I’ve ever been on.”

Bhumi’s addition seems to have infused the project with fresh energy, making the environment as memorable as the story they were telling.

The Film He First Said ‘No’ To

Interestingly, Imran also revisited the beginning of his journey with Break Ke Baad - a film he almost never did.

He recalled, “I was shooting for I Hate Luv Storys (2010) when Danish came in for a narration of Break Ke Baad. He hates narrations and I don’t do well listening to narrations, so I said ‘no thanks’ and left. Later, I met him at a party and we got along really well. Halfway through the conversation, I realised he was the same guy whose script I had turned down. That’s when he sent me a draft to read and it clicked with me. We were shooting the film a couple of months later.”
