Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva (JioHotstar)

In this visually vibrant fantasy epic, Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor), a carefree Mumbai DJ, discovers that he is connected to ancient astras—cosmic weapons forged in Indian mythology. Blessed with an unusual resistance to fire, Shiva is drawn into a conflict involving the Astraverse, guided by Guruji (Amitabh Bachchan) and accompanied by Isha (Alia Bhatt). As dark forces grow stronger, Shiva must unlock his fiery power before the world becomes engulfed in chaos. Though widely memed, the film boasts impressive visual effects and world-building, making it a landmark attempt at creating an Indian cinematic universe.

Tharangam (SunNXT)

A delightful oddball in Malayalam cinema, Tharangam blends fantasy with absurd comedy and crime. The film follows two comically incompetent sub-inspectors—Pappan (Tovino Thomas) and Joy (Balu Varghese)—who are pulled into a supernatural mess involving a curse and a mysterious stranger who may be an angel. Malu (Santhy Balachandran) tries to keep sanity intact while Raju (Chemban Vinod Jose) contributes to the confusion with his criminal antics. With divine interventions, bizarre coincidences, and questionable logic, the film becomes a chaotic yet charming ride unlike anything else.

Kalki 2898 AD (Prime Video/Netflix)

A genre-bending mix of mythology and dystopian sci-fi, Kalki 2898 AD reimagines the future through ancient prophecy. In a desolate world ruled by a tyrannical force, Bhairava (Prabhas) is a swagger-filled bounty hunter dreaming of luxury, while Sumathi (Deepika Padukone) finds herself tied to a cosmic prophecy that could reshape humanity’s fate. Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan) seeks immortality with chilling precision, and the immortal Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan) roams the centuries burdened by guilt and destiny. The film blends sleek futuristic visuals with mythological storytelling—an ambitious spectacle unlike any other in Indian cinema.

Mirai (JioHotstar)

In this Telugu fantasy adventure, Vedha (Teja Sajja) transforms from a small-time pickpocket into the chosen protector of nine sacred scriptures created by Emperor Ashoka. The ruthless Mahabir Lama (Manchu Manoj) has already captured eight of the scriptures and aims to plunge the world into darkness. Vedha must rise against overwhelming odds, guided by his mother Ambika Prajapati (Shriya Saran), the original guardian of the final scripture. Filled with mystical lore, intense battles, and emotional stakes, Mirai expands the fantasy genre with its rich world-building and dramatic storytelling.

Magadheera (JioHotstar/Prime Video)

A reincarnation-based fantasy from S.S. Rajamouli, Magadheera follows Harsha (Ram Charan), a modern stunt biker who experiences flashes of a past life upon touching Indu (Kajal Aggarwal). He remembers being Kala Bhairava, a fierce 17th-century warrior whose love, honour, and rivalry with Ranadev Billa (Dev Gill) stretch across centuries. Sher Khan (Srihari), once a feared foe, becomes a surprising moral force across reincarnations. With sweeping battle scenes, romance, and grand visuals, the film remains a landmark in Indian fantasy cinema.

Baahubali: The Beginning (JioHotstar)

Rajamouli’s blockbuster fantasy saga begins with Shivudu (Prabhas), a spirited young man who climbs a gigantic waterfall only to stumble into a kingdom fractured by betrayal. As he uncovers his royal heritage, he becomes entangled in a conflict involving the fierce queen Sivagami (Ramya Krishnan), the warrior Avantika (Tamannaah Bhatia), the tormented Devasena (Anushka Shetty), and the power-hungry Bhallaladeva (Rana Daggubati). With stunning visuals and iconic moments, the film revolutionized Indian fantasy filmmaking.

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (JioHotstar)

The saga reaches its emotional and dramatic peak as Amarendra Baahubali (Prabhas) navigates palace intrigue, dangerous rivalries, and heartbreaking betrayals. Bhallaladeva’s cold, calculated plotting leads to the downfall of Amarendra, with Kattappa (Sathyaraj) bearing the most unforgettable guilt in Indian cinema. In the present timeline, Mahendra Baahubali rises to avenge his father and reclaim Mahishmati. With spectacular action, grand storytelling, and powerful performances, the film remains a milestone in Indian fantasy.
