The buzz around Awarapan 2 has been intense ever since Emraan Hashmi confirmed his return as Shivam, a character that enjoys cult popularity even years after the original film’s release. With Disha Patani joining the cast, fans have been eagerly waiting for official announcements, teasers and a concrete release plan. However, amid this growing excitement, the makers have now confirmed that the film’s release has been postponed, shifting it from its initially announced April 2026 date.

The Legacy of Awarapan and Expectations from the Sequel
Released in 2007, Awarapan went on to gain a loyal following for its emotional depth, music and Emraan Hashmi’s brooding performance. Awarapan 2, produced by Mukesh Bhatt under the Vishesh Films banner and directed by Nitin Kakkar, aims to carry forward that legacy while adapting it for contemporary audiences. Industry reports suggest the sequel blends intense action with strong emotional beats, staying true to the tone that made the original memorable.
Postponement Sparks Speculation
As soon as news of the delay surfaced, speculation grew that Awarapan 2 was being pushed to avoid a box-office clash with other major releases such as Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups.
Addressing these rumours, producer Mukesh Bhatt firmly clarified that the postponement has nothing to do with competition.
During a recent interview, Bhatt stated that the decision was purely production-driven and not a strategic retreat from big releases.
Emraan Hashmi Resumes Shoot Despite Injury
A major reason behind the delay is Emraan Hashmi’s injury sustained during an action sequence. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the actor suffered a serious abdominal muscle tear that required surgery and rest. Rather than rushing the shoot or compromising on action sequences, the team chose to pause production until Hashmi fully recovered.
However, what impressed many was Emraan’s determination. Once medically cleared, he returned to the sets and resumed shooting, reportedly under careful supervision. His commitment ensured that the remaining action-heavy portions could be completed as envisioned, without diluting the film’s intensity.

What Lies Ahead
With the release now expected in the May–June 2026 window, the makers maintain that the delay will ultimately benefit the film. As anticipation continues to build, fans remain hopeful that Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani's Awarapan 2 will deliver a worthy sequel that does justice to its cult predecessor.
