When Devara: Part 1, directed by Koratala Siva, hit theatres in 2024, the response was mixed. Despite towering expectations and a powerful cast led by Jr NTR, Janhvi Kapoor, and Saif Ali Khan, the film left audiences divided. Its cliffhanger ending clearly pointed toward a second chapter, teasing unfinished battles and emotional reckonings.
But as months turned into a year without concrete updates, whispers grew louder. Fans began to fear the sequel had quietly drifted into oblivion.

Producer Breaks the Silence
Putting an end to the uncertainty, producer Sudhakar Mikkilineni recently addressed the sequel’s status at a public event. Reassuring fans, he confirmed the project is very much alive.
He replied, “We will begin shooting for it in May this year. We plan to release it next year, in 2027. The film will surely be another blockbuster hit.”
With that, the rumours of shelving were swept away, replaced by renewed anticipation.
Fans React With Hope
The announcement sparked lively chatter online. While many celebrated the update, some remained cautiously playful about the timeline.
One fan joked, “2028 fix cheskondi ika (Let’s assume it’ll release in 2028).” (sic)
Others hoped the makers would target a grand Diwali 2027 release.
Conversations also drifted toward Jr NTR’s upcoming collaboration with director Prashanth Neel.
Looking Back at Part 1’s Voyage
The first instalment followed Devara, a fierce pirate-turned-saviour, and his son Vara - both portrayed by Tarak in a dual-shaded narrative. Though reviews were lukewarm, the film proved its commercial muscle, earning ₹428 crore worldwide.
Backed by Sudhakar Mikkilineni, Kosaraju Harikrishna, and Nandamuri Kalyanram under Yuvasudha Arts and NTR Arts, the film also featured Prakash Raj, Srikanth, and Shine Tom Chacko in key roles.

What’s Next for Jr NTR
Post Devara: Part 1, Jr NTR stepped into Bollywood with Ayan Mukerji’s War 2, sharing screen space with Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani. The action entertainer grossed ₹364.35 crore globally but didn’t leave a lasting impact.
Now, the actor is immersed in filming a high-octane project with Prashanth Neel, reportedly titled Dragon, expected to release this year.
With multiple big-ticket ventures and Devara: Part 2 officially back on course, Jr NTR’s cinematic journey looks anything but calm.
