Once the poster boy of the late ’90s and early 2000s, Bobby Deol has seen it all: superstardom, setbacks, and now, a roaring comeback. From his charming debut in Barsaat to his electrifying reinvention in Aashram and Animal, Bobby has carved a niche for himself as one of Bollywood’s most enduring and versatile actors.
Thirty years into his career, the actor seems to be ageing in reverse, sharper in performance, stronger in spirit, and more connected than ever to his craft.
Three decades into his film journey, Bobby Deol is truly in his golden era. After a powerhouse performance in The Ba**ds of Bollywood, Aryan Khan’s debut web series, the actor has reminded everyone why he continues to charm audiences even today.
But behind the on-screen stardom lies a grounded man a devoted husband, father, and family man.
In a heartfelt conversation on The Right Angle with Sonal Kalra, Chief Managing Editor of Entertainment and Lifestyle, Bobby opened up about his family, career, and his sons, Aryaman Deol and Dharam Deol.
Family — His Constant Support
In a candid conversation, Bobby opened up about his wife Tanya Deol and spoke lovingly about her, calling her his rock and biggest support. “My kids love her more than they love me,” he laughed.
The animal actor married his wife in 1996 and before that his real life love story has not been less than a fairytale. He noticed Tania at a famous cafe in Mumbai for the first time, after which they bumped into each other a couple of times.
Bobby chased the girl of his dreams by calling her and losing card games to her, eventually confessing his love for her and proposing her for marriage while driving her home.
In an old interview, Tanya had revealed she was just 19 when she met Bobby’s parents–Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur–for the first time and decided to marry him.
Sons want to be Actors
When asked about Aryaman’s Bollywood aspirations, Bobby shared, “I feel happy when people praise my sons, though it brings pressure too because expectations are high. Both want to become actors, but I keep them away from the limelight.”
Reflecting on their journey, he added, “My younger one is shy, but Aryaman will soon make his entry. Nothing happens overnight, they’re working hard, from the heart. Even being an insider doesn’t make things easy. I tell them to look at how I reinvented my career.”
As Bobby enjoys this new phase in his career, with exciting projects like Bandar and Alpha opposite Alia Bhatt, it’s clear that success, for him, begins and ends with family.
