Even after a decade, filmmaker SS Rajamouli and story-architect Vijayendra Prasad’s Baahubali saga still stands as a cinematic landmark. The 2015-2017 epics- Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion- redefined large-scale storytelling, set global box-office benchmarks, and turned regional cinema into a pan-India and international phenomenon. Now, as the team preps for Baahubali: The Epic, buzz is building around a possible prequel.

Star Power That Built an Empire
SS Rajamouli’s vision was elevated by a cast that felt larger than life. Prabhas’ dual turn as Amarendra and Mahendra Baahubali cemented his global stardom, while Anushka Shetty’s regal Devasena and Rana Daggubati’s menacing Bhallaladeva became unforgettable. Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan, Sathyaraj, and Nassar added depth, making Mahishmati feel real and emotionally resonant.
A Prequel in the Works?
Industry chatter suggests Rajamouli and Prasad are developing a film centered on Kattappa’s backstory. The narrative may explore his lineage and his family’s generations of loyalty to Mahishmati’s throne. Reports claim pre-visualization work has begun, though it’s unclear if Rajamouli will direct or pass the reins to someone else.
While official confirmation is pending, the idea of revisiting Mahishmati through Kattappa’s journey has already set fans abuzz.
Kattappa: The Loyal Blade

Bound by duty above all else, his shocking act of killing Baahubali sparked one of Indian cinema’s most viral moments. Sathyaraj’s nuanced performance- stoic, humorous, and tragic- cemented Kattappa as a fan favourite, his moral conflict continuing to fascinate audiences.
