In a surprising turn of events, filmmaker Ayan Mukerji has reportedly stepped down from Dhoom 4, Yash Raj Films’ upcoming action spectacle. The Brahmastra director was earlier in advanced talks to helm the project, which was expected to feature Ranbir Kapoor. However, reports claim that “creative differences” prompted his decision to walk away from the franchise.

Ayan Exits Dhoom 4 Over...?
According to Bollywood Hungama, Mukerji’s vision didn’t align with the film’s pre-set creative path. The script, penned by Shridhar Raghavan, left limited room for the director’s input. A source revealed that Ayan “didn’t have much say in the screenplay and didn’t want to embark on another journey of just execution.”
The insider further added, “Ayan believes that films like War 2 and Dhoom 4 were never meant for him. He wants to make films that have a wider scope for romance, drama, and storytelling - along with spectacle.”
Known for weaving emotional narratives into visually rich worlds, Mukerji reportedly felt the franchise’s tone didn’t complement his filmmaking philosophy.
Parting on Good Terms
Before finalizing his exit, Mukerji held multiple meetings with YRF head Aditya Chopra and actor Ranbir Kapoor. The discussions were said to be cordial, with both parties supporting his creative choice. Sources close to the development confirm the parting was “amicable,” emphasizing mutual respect between the filmmaker and the production house.

Future of Dhoom 4
Despite Mukerji’s exit, Yash Raj Films reportedly remains committed to moving forward with Dhoom 4. Insiders reveal that the studio is likely to appoint an in-house director for the project. With Ayan out, speculation is rife that YRF may also reconsider the casting, possibly replacing Ranbir Kapoor with a new face to headline the action franchise’s next chapter.
