Veteran playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya launched a scathing attack on Rahman, blaming him for altering the very fabric of the film music ecosystem. In a widely discussed interview, Abhijeet alleged that “the musicians who used to play in films are now without jobs - mostly because of Rahman,” claiming that an overreliance on technology replaced live instrumentalists. He further alleged that Rahman had told industry insiders “musicians are not needed… everything can be done on a laptop,” a shift Abhijeet believes stripped traditional musicians of dignity and steady employment.

Expressing frustration, he said, “Because of him, everyone found success, but poor musicians are sitting at home,” a remark that reignited the long-standing debate over progress versus preservation in Bollywood music.

RGV Claims ‘Jai Ho’ Was Sukhwinder Singh’s Composition, Not Rahman’s!

Adding fuel to the controversy, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma resurrected old claims surrounding Rahman’s Oscar-winning song Jai Ho. Varma alleged, “Rahman didn’t compose the Oscar-winning song ‘Jai Ho’; it was actually composed by singer Sukhwinder Singh, who received Rs 5 lakhs for it,” suggesting the track was bought rather than originally created by Rahman.

Varma also recalled Rahman allegedly telling filmmaker Subhash Ghai, “You are paying for my name, not for my work,” hinting that brand value often overshadowed the creative process.

According to Varma, Rahman had once asked Sukhwinder Singh to compose a song for Yuvraj, which later found its way to Slumdog Millionaire and emerged as Jai Ho. He also shared an anecdote about Rahman and Rangeela.

RGV Clarifies, Calls Rahman ‘The Greatest’

As his statements gained traction, Varma moved swiftly to clarify his position. Addressing the backlash on social media, he wrote, “To all concerned .. I am being misquoted and misread out of context in the matter of the Jai ho song … in my view @arrahman is the greatest composer and the nicest human being I ever met and he’s the last person to take away anybody’s credit … I hope this puts an end to the negativism surrounding the issue.” (sic)

Anup Jalota Asks Rahman to Convert Back to Hinduism and See If He Gets Work

Meanwhile, veteran singer Anup Jalota weighed in on Rahman’s comments about religion affecting professional opportunities. His remarks sparked widespread outrage when he said, “If A.R. Rahman feels that because he is a Muslim he is not getting work, then he should convert back to Hinduism and see whether he gets work or not,” adding, “He was born Hindu, then became Muslim, achieved so much fame and respect, so how can religion be the reason for lack of work?”

Opinions Continue to Clash

The statement quickly went viral, drawing strong criticism for being insensitive, while others viewed it as a blunt counterargument to Rahman’s claims.
