Rockstar Devi Sri Prasad, the musical powerhouse behind countless chart-toppers and the blockbuster Pushpa franchise, is ready to explore an entirely new creative territory. After years of ruling playlists and cinemas with his energetic compositions, DSP is stepping in front of the camera for the first time, as a lead actor, in the upcoming pan-Indian film Yellamma.
From Music Maestro to Leading Man
Known for shaping the sonic identity of several mass entertainers, Devi Sri Prasad now adds another milestone to his illustrious career. Yellamma marks his official acting debut as a hero, making him one of the few top music composers to take on a full-fledged lead role in a feature film.
The project is presented by Dil Raju and produced by Shirish under the Sri Venkateswara Creations banner.
Venu Yeldandi’s Second Directorial Venture
Directed by Venu Yeldandi, Yellamma is his second film after the widely acclaimed Balagam. Expectations are naturally high, given the director’s reputation for crafting emotionally rooted rural narratives. The film had earlier gone through several casting discussions, with actors like Natural Star Nani and Nithiin reportedly opting out for undisclosed reasons, before the spotlight turned toward DSP.
Official Announcement and First Glimpse
Speculation turned into confirmation when the makers officially announced Devi Sri Prasad as the film’s lead. On the occasion of Makara Sankranthi, the first glimpse was unveiled, introducing DSP as Parshi. The visuals, combined with a compelling background score, sparked curiosity and set the tone for what appears to be a rustic, character-driven drama. DSP’s look, raw and intriguing, has already become a talking point.
Music, Mystery, and a Pan-Indian Vision
Apart from playing the protagonist, Devi Sri Prasad will also compose the music for Yellamma, adding another layer of personal creative involvement.
While the female lead is yet to be revealed, the film’s music rights have been secured by T-Series, further amplifying expectations. Yellamma is planned as a pan-India release in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.
