Mumbai: In less than a week of losing his mother, actor Irrfan Khan reportedly lost his own life battle with a rare form of cancer. The Piku actor was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai with colon infection and passed away on Wednesday at the age of 54.

"It's saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him. After having been struck by lightning in 2018 with the news of rare cancer, he took life soon after as it came and he fought the many battles that came with it. Surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heavenly abode, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own. We all pray and hope that he is at peace. And to resonate and part with his words he had said, 'As if I was tasting life for the first time, the magical side of it', a statement from his representative read.

The news has sent shockwaves in the entire nation, especially the Bollywood fraternity.

"And he rides silently into eternity," Randeep Hooda shared a video of Irrfan Khan's ambulance.

Filmmaker Soojit Sarkar, who worked with Irrfan in 'Piku' also took to Twitter to condole the actor's sudden demise.

President Ram Nath Kovind, PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar, CM Naveen Patnaik also condoled the death of the versatile actor.

Irrfan Khan was buried at the Versova kabrastan in Mumbai at around 3pm today.
