Aamir Khan was very keen to make a movie on the Hindu epic Mahabharata. Rather he was planning to make series of movies for the big screen so that justice was done to the entire plot.

The team of Aamir Khan Productions did extensive research on all the characters, the plots, and the multiple stories that are associated or are relevant to the epic. A couple of months earlier, however, buzz circulated that the PK actor was planning to turn the project into a web series with A-listed Bollywood stars.

Sadly, the latest news indicates that the superstar has decided to drop the idea of going ahead with this project altogether.

Aamir Khan Dropped Mahabharata Project Because It was Not Commercially Viable

Reports indicate that the superstar decided to drop the project because it was not commercially viable. According to Yahoo, "After weighing all pros and cons Aamir Khan has decided not to make the Mahabharat. For one it would willy-nilly become controversial. More importantly, the scale on which he planned the project was commercially not viable. Also, setting aside five years of his precious time for the Mahabharat meant losing out on doing at least three feature films. So no. No Mahabharat.”

The source further adds, "There were bound to be unsavory controversies surrounding the project. The radical groups would have challenged Aamir’s right to film the inviolable epic. Aamir feels now is not the right time to make the Mahabharat."

It's Good News For Baahubali Director SS Rajamouli

Baahubali director SS Rajamouli has several times revealed his desire to make a movie on Mahabharata. But when Aamir Khan announced his intentions, the South Indian director was a bit upset. Known for projecting larger-than-life characters, action thrills, and stories on a big screen, Rajamouli believes that he will be able to do justice to legendary mythological characters like Karna, Arjun, Duryodhana, and Bheem.

Now that Aamir Khan has decided to step back will SS Rajamouli once again pick up the threads of his dream project and direct Mahabharata-based movie?
