The strained relationship between Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and his brother Faissal Khan has resurfaced once again. In August 2025, Faissal sent shockwaves through the industry by claiming that he was “imprisoned” inside Aamir Khan’s Mumbai home for over a year, allegedly under the pretext of schizophrenia. The former actor went on to publicly announce that he was cutting all ties with Aamir and the rest of the family, accusing them of ruining both his freedom and career.

Aamir Khan Breaks His Silence
Months after Faissal’s allegations made headlines, Aamir Khan finally addressed the issue in an interview with Bollywood Hungama.
Responding to the deeply personal accusations, the actor offered a restrained and emotional reaction, saying, “Kya karein? That is my destiny. You can fight the world, but how can you fight your own family?”
Rather than issuing a detailed rebuttal, Aamir’s statement reflected the emotional toll of being publicly accused by his own brother.
The Family’s Official Position
When Faissal first alleged that he had been confined for more than a year, Aamir and his family released an official statement describing his claims as “hurtful.” They maintained that all decisions regarding Faissal were taken collectively by the family, strictly following medical advice, and with his well-being in mind.
Mela and the Burden of Expectations
The controversy also revived discussion around Mela (2000), the film Aamir produced to relaunch Faissal’s acting career after Madhosh (1994) failed to make an impact. Reflecting on the project years later, Aamir admitted that the film’s failure affected him deeply.
He said, “I was obviously disappointed by its failure to achieve its potential. Every film I do means a lot to me. The failure of Mela definitely made a difference to me. It was hard on Faissal, but it was hard on me as well. I’m not comfortable with the idea of any of my films not realising their full potential. The entire team had worked very hard. We were all disappointed.”
From Blockbuster High to Creative Conflict
Following the historic success of Raja Hindustani (1996), which earned over ₹76 crore on a ₹5.75 crore budget, expectations from Mela were enormous. However, the film struggled with delays and constant comparisons to Sholay. Director Dharmesh Darshan and Faissal later accused Aamir of excessive interference, blaming him for the project’s failure.
A Dispute That Refuses to Die
While Aamir Khan maintains that his involvement stemmed from a desire to help his brother succeed, Faissal has consistently claimed the opposite- that his career was deliberately sabotaged and that his personal freedom was taken away. These allegations continue to shadow Mela, ensuring that the film remains a symbol of one of Bollywood’s most painful family disputes.
