Class 10, 12 Board Exams Exempted From COVID-19 Lockdown Measures

Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: Union Home Ministry has exempted Class 10 and 12 board exams from COVID-19 lockdown measures with certain conditions.

"Taking into consideration academic interest of large number of students, it has been decided to grant exemption from lockdown measures to conduct Board examinations for Classes 10 and 12," Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted.

However, Shah said that social distancing, use of hand sanitisers and wearing of face masks along with thermal screening at all exam centres must be mandatorily followed during the conduct of the examinations.

States will be required to arrange special buses to take students to and from exam centres, he said.

In a letter to Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Shah said that thermal screening is compulsory at all exam centres and that exam schedules need to be staggered.

Earlier, CBSE had said that 29 pending exams for the two classes would be conducted between July 1 and July 15, while the results may be announced in August.

Six Class 10 and twelve Class 12 exams had been postponed due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Key Points of the Exemptions

1. No exam centre will be permitted in the containment zones
2. Wear of face mask mandatory for teachers, students and other staff
3. Thermal screening and sanitisation and social distancing at the exam centres
4. In view of the exams to be conducted by different boards (CBSE/ICSE/State Boards), their examination schedule should be staggered.
5. States, UTs need to arrange special buses for the transportation of the students to the examination centre.
