Odisha rolls out Biotechnology innovation fellowship for PhD students; March 5 deadline

In a major push to strengthen advanced research and innovation, the Science and Technology Department has invited applications for the Odisha Biotechnology Research and Innovation Fellowship. The last date for submission of applications is March 5.

The fellowship has been introduced to promote cutting-edge research in frontier areas of biotechnology and allied life sciences. It aims to support meritorious students and build a skilled human resource base capable of contributing to academia, industry, and societal applications in the biotechnology sector.

Eligibility and Application Process

Students holding an MSc or M.Tech degree in biotechnology or allied sciences with first division or an equivalent grade from a recognised university, college, or institution are eligible to apply. Candidates with four-year undergraduate degrees under the New Education Policy (NEP)-2020 framework may also apply to pursue PhD studies in biotechnology and related disciplines.

Applicants must be domiciles of Odisha. The fellowship is open only to registered full-time PhD scholars enrolled in any government university or college in the state, or in any state or central government institute established within Odisha.

Applications must be duly forwarded by the head of the institution along with all relevant documents. Submissions are required both by email and by post before the March 5 deadline.

Selection and Financial Support

Each year, 20 PhD scholars will be selected. The selection committee will assess candidates on career marks (50) and presentation and personal interview (50), making a total of 100 marks.

Selected fellows will receive Rs 30,000 per month for three years, along with a contingency grant of Rs 50,000 per annum. The Project Evaluation and Review Committee may assess progress during the tenure.

This initiative marks a significant step toward nurturing research talent in Odisha’s biotechnology landscape.
