IAS Tina Dabi gets students arrested for calling her ‘Reel Star’? Know full story here…
In an unusual turn of events, students protesting against fee hike at a women’s college in Rajasthan’s Barmer district claimed to be detained by the police, after they called IAS Tina Dabi a ‘Reel Star’.
The incident occurred outside Multanmal Bhikhchand Chhajed Women’s College, where students, supported by two leaders associated with ABVP, were staging a protest over increased college fees. Police later detained the two leaders and took them to the Kotwali police station.
Students alleged that the police action followed a remark made by one of the leaders referring to District Collector Tina Dabi as a ‘reel star’. In response, several women students marched to the police station and began a sit-in, demanding the immediate release of the detained leaders.
Rajasthan cadre IAS officer and Barmer District Collector Tina Dabi has once again found herself at the centre of public debate—this time due to remarks made by students protesting against a steep hike in college fees in Barmer.

The agitating students claimed the remark was made after a teacher described the district collector as a role model. The student leader allegedly responded by saying their role models were historical figures such as Ahilyabai Holkar and Rani Durgavati.

Protesting students further alleged that the detentions took place only after the demonstration outside the college had ended, raising questions over why no action was taken during the protest if there were genuine law-and-order concerns. They accused the administration of suppressing dissent related to legitimate issues such as rising education costs.
However, responding to the controversy, District Collector Tina Dabi dismissed the detention for being called a ‘reel star’ and claimed that it was a routine police action for preventing escalation. She further added that officials were subjected to misbehaviour during the protest, prompting police intervention.
The detained student leaders were released later without any case being registered.
