The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued an advisory on Thursday to all affiliated schools, urging them to ensure that students use only genuine NCERT textbooks amid reports of unauthorised sellers circulating counterfeit versions.
The directive came after the Board noted that several fake or duplicate textbooks are being sold at discounted prices, raising concerns over quality and accuracy, reportedly.
Warning Against Counterfeit Textbooks
According to the advisory, these counterfeit textbooks are of inferior quality and often contain printing and content errors, which may adversely affect the learning experience of students.
The Schools have been advised to counsel parents to purchase authentic NCERT textbooks only through authorised channels to ensure the correctness and reliability of content. The Board also emphasised that if schools themselves procure NCERT books, they must do so solely from authorised sources notified by CBSE and NCERT from time to time.
The advisory lists the following as official avenues for purchasing authentic NCERT textbooks: NCERT Regional Production & Distribution Centres (RPDCs), authorised vendors listed on the NCERT website, the NCERT Postal Supply Service available on the NCERT portal, and the official NCERT Amazon storefront.
Schools have also been encouraged to disseminate details of the nearest RPDC for assistance. The RPDCs include:
