New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has increased the fellowship amount awarded to SC, OBC, and minorities. A notification in this regard has been issued by the UGC on its official website www.ugc.ac.in.

Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Ministry of Minority Affairs have revised the amount of fellowship granted under the National Fellowship for SCs (NFSC), National Fellowship for OBCs (NFOBC) and Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF), read the notification.

As per the revised fellowship, the amount of scholarship for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) has been increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs 31,000 per month for the first two years.

Similarly, the amount of scholarship for Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) has been increased from Rs 28,000 to Rs 35,000 per month.

Besides, 'the HRA at the revised rate of 8%, 16% and 24% is allowed as per the norms of Government of India and as applicable in the city or location where the Research Fellow is pursuing his/her research,' added the release.

The revised fellowship will be granted with effect from January 1, 2019.

Earlier in June, the UGC had increased the fellowship amount of JRF and SRF in Science, Humanities and Social Sciences. while the fellowship amount for JRF was increased from 25,000 to Rs 31,000, the SRF amount was revised from Rs 28,000 to Rs 35,000.
