Bhubaneswar: With the deadline for various scholarships fast approaching, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked Universities across the country to encourage students to take benefits of the schemes.

In a letter, UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain urged vice-chancellors of all universities to give special attention to SC and ST students by encouraging them to apply for the scholarship.

Earlier, UGC had invited applications from students for scholarships under for four schemes -Indira Gandhi PG Scholarship for Single Girl Child (SGC), PG Scholarship for University Rank Holder candidate (URH), Ishan Uday Special scheme for North Eastern Region (NER) and PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC/ST candidates (PGSPROF).

The National portal was earlier opened for receiving applications in September 2020 with the closing date initially being October last year. Later the deadline was extended twice, November 30 last year and January 20, 2021.

The detail guidelines of each scholarship scheme is uploaded on the official website.

“The students may be advised to submit their online applications well in time so that your institution is able to verify applications within the prescribed timeline. The last date for institutional level verification and re-submission of defective applications is February 5,2021,” the UGC letter read.
