Bhubaneswar: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has warned students not to fall prey to online fraudsters.

In a circular, the Commission has said some people or groups are making fraudulent claims and charging verification fees of Rs. 100 from learners of the SWAYAM Portal(www.swavam.qov.in) of the Government of India.

The matter has come to the notice of Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), an Inter-University Centre of UGC and National Coordinator for Non-Engineering UG & PG SWAYAM Courses.

As per UGC, the learners are told that they have been selected for National Scholarships and all Government jobs. The fraudulent individuals/groups have also shared their bank details for deposit of verification fees.

“Through this notice, UGC issues caution to all SWAYAM Learners to remain alert and not to fall prey to any such malafide claims of demanding for money and also not to share other important personal or financial information,” UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain’s letter read.

It is pertinent to mention here that UGC in December last year had released the list of 78 Undergraduate (UG) & 46 Postgraduate (PG) MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses), which will be offered in January 2021 semester.

To encourage continuity of learning amongst students, UGC had also shared with Universities and Colleges the links of various ICT initiatives of Ministry of Education & UGC including the MOOCs being offered on the SWAYAM platform (www.swavam.qov.in).
