Online sale of NCERT books to begin today

Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is all set to launch a portal allowing parents and schools across India to place orders of textbooks and get them home-delivered.

The new portal will not only help saving money but also help saving time and spending extra by sourcing books from private publishers during non-availability.

“During the start of a new academic session, we face issues like shortage and non-availability of books. It was forcing us to buy books at exorbitant prices from the market. Hope, our problems will be solved now!” said a Bhubaneswar-based parent Satya Mohanty.

Just like other e-tailer, the NCERT-launched portal will have tracking facility for the ordered products; online payment can also be made.

Besides, NCERT will also soon make available its books on e-commerce platforms like Flipkart and Amazon with an aim to streamline its online sale process further, said sources.

Meanwhile, the price of NCERT textbooks is likely to rise by up to 30% from the next academic session. The price of school textbooks was last revised in 2012.

As per reports, the council’s decision to hike price came against the backdrop of the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry’s directive to provide students with quality textbooks.

NCERT will soon forward its new pricing plan to the HRD Ministry for approval, said sources.

NCERT supplies its textbooks to around 6,500 CBSE affiliated schools across the country. A total of around 18,000 schools in the country are affiliated to the board.
