Bhubaneswar: Students of IIIT Bhubaneswar in collaboration with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation and Bhubaneswar Urban Knowledge Centre (BUKC) of BDA staged a ‘Nukkad Natak’ or street play (a form of theatrical performance and presentation in outdoor public spaces) to celebrate and create awareness on World Cancer Day at the BMC Bhawani Mall in Bhubaneswar today.

Going with the theme of World Cancer Day this year ‘We Can, I Can’ as many as 20 students from ‘Aakanksh’ -the drama club of the institute staged the performance with awareness messages on prevention, detection and treatment of the deadly disease which has recently been recognized by The World Health Organization (WHO) as the leading cause of global morbidity and mortality.

This apart the student group also elucidated a presentation which contained a moral story on how elderly parents who dedicate their entire life to bring up their children are often at the receiving end of negligence.world-cancer-day

“Through the ‘natak’ we tried to depict the modern day attitude of certain people towards their elderly parents who are instrumental in making them what they are,” said Abhikrit Rajput, a student and member of Film and Theatre Society of IIIT Bhubaneswar.
