CBSE Identifies 1700 Schools to Penalise for Violating Norms

Bhubaneswar: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has shortlisted as many as 1700 schools affiliated to it to penalize for violating norms.

The Board affiliated private schools are not allowed to register over 40 students per section but the CBSE has found out that many schools are violating the norms following which the Board has decided to impose a fine of Rs 500 per extra student.

Besides, CBSE will also issue a show-cause notice for withdrawal of affiliation for those schools.

This move of CBSE is expected to root out renting of seats by schools where students get registered in schools and join private coaching centers, reported TOI.

A CBSE notification read, “Schools should enter number of sections and number of students which should be in consonance with the information provided on OASIS. This information should be filled very carefully in OASIS as schools will not be allowed to change the declared section/strength afterwards.”

CBSE has reportedly decided to exempt students from the mandatory percentage norm and extend the rule where students have to achieve a combined 33% of marks to pass the exam.
