The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has been taking many initiatives to generate curiosity and develop scientific attitude among students. Such initiatives encourage them to create, innovate, invent and also become more responsible in the use of Science and Technology.

In order to provide a platform to students to demonstrate such learnings that encourage construction of knowledge by connecting new ideas to existing concepts as well as enriching one’s understanding from other’s experiences and perspectives, the CBSE organises Science Exhibition/ Fair at regional and national levels every year.

This year too, the CBSE has invited students (Class VI to XI) of its affiliated schools to prepare research based science projects that are original, innovative exhibit/model on the theme “Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with a Thrust on Water Conservation”.

Schedule of Science Exhibition/Fair

The CBSE Science Exhibition/Fair for the academic session 2019-20 will be organized in different parts of the country at regional Level in the month of October – November 2019. The National Level Exhibition/Fair would be conducted after the completion at the Regional Levels and dates for the same will be notified later.

Theme & Sub-Themes For Science Exhibition/Fair

The theme of the Science Exhibition/Fair is “Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with a Thrust on Water Conservation” while the subthemes are- Sustainable Agricultural Practices, Cleanliness and Health, Resource Management, Industrial Development, Future Transport and Communication, Educational Games and Mathematical Modelling and others.

Guidelines For Participation

As per the notification released by the CBSE, a school team for an exhibit will be represented by either an individual student or two students and one mentor Science teacher. Students studying in classes VI to XI in the current academic session eligible to participate in the exhibition/fair.

A participating school can register for a maximum of two exhibits/ projects/ models/ teams. The names of the students and the mentor teacher, once registered online, will not be changed at any stage of the exhibition. The school team which participated at Regional Level will only be allowed to participated in National Level, added the notification.

Care should be taken that eco-friendly materials are used in the preparation of exhibits, the CBSE said.

Key points related Exhibition/Fair

The selected best 24 exhibits (the number may increase or decrease depending on the quality of exhibit) at each regional level venue will be eligible to participate in the national level exhibition/fair.

Certificates will be awarded to the participants of the selected best entries at the National Level along with a cash award.

Names of the winners of the CBSE National Science Exhibition/ Fair will be forwarded to NCERT for consideration as entries in 47th Jawaharlal Nehru National Science Mathematics and Environmental Exhibition for Children in 2020 to be organized by NCERT.

Winners may also get a direct entry to participate in the Science Fair organized by Initiative for Research & Innovation in Science (IRIS) subject to their selection for it.

Important Dates

The last date for filling the online registration for the science exhibition/fair October 12, 2019 while the payment has to been done by October 18, 2019.

The registration fee for Indian school is Rs 1,500 per team and for foreign school, it is Rs 3,000 per team.
