Lucknow: Teen Shoots Father Dead over Career Stress, Dismembers Body
In Lucknow’s Ashiana area on February 20, police say a 21-year-old man named Akshat Pratap Singh allegedly shot his 49-year-old father, Manvendra Singh - a pathology lab owner - following a heated argument at their home.
According to the police, the dispute reportedly stemmed from ongoing pressure over career choices, including preparation for the competitive medical entrance exam, NEET, and disagreements over the son’s role in the family business.
After the shooting, officers report that Akshat dismembered his father’s body in an attempt to hide the evidence. Some remains were concealed in a blue drum inside the house, while other parts were reportedly disposed of elsewhere.
The gruesome act was said to have occurred in the presence of the victim’s daughter, who was allegedly threatened into silence by the accused.
Police recovered the torso from the drum and took Akshat into custody after inconsistencies in his account were noticed during the investigation. Forensic teams are examining bloodstains and other evidence as part of an ongoing probe. Authorities have registered a murder case and are continuing further examination.
Muzaffarnagar: Sisters Arrested for Stabbing Their Father to Death
In a separate incident in Morna village of Muzaffarnagar district, police have arrested a 32-year-old woman and detained her 16-year-old sister for allegedly killing their 55-year-old father, Ramprasad, early on February 23. According to authorities, the father was found with multiple stab wounds on his neck and body.
Police said during interrogation the sisters confessed to killing him after repeated disputes over restrictions, taunts and discriminatory treatment at home, which they claimed created ongoing resentment.
The weapon used in the attack, along with blood-stained clothes, was seized as evidence. The elder daughter has been formally arrested while the younger one is in juvenile custody, as per established procedures.
A murder case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances of the family conflict.

A Disturbing Pattern of Domestic Breakdown
Though unrelated, both incidents share a tragic theme of family disputes escalating into fatal violence. Law enforcement officials and mental health experts stress that while stress and conflict can be significant, resorting to violence is a grave societal concern that demands urgent attention - including better mental health support, conflict counselling, and mechanisms to address interpersonal grievances before they spiral into tragedy.
