Bhubaneswar: At least five persons have so far been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a sweets stall owner in the Samantrapur locality of the city last week, senior officials of Commissionerate Police said on Friday.
The police said that Sambhu Sahu, the sweet stall owner, had been brutally hacked to death on a busy road on October 4 by two assassins. One of the accused in the case, identified as Raja, had had earlier surrendered before the court.
Raja’s parents and grandfather have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident and further probe is underway, police said.
Raja had surrendered before the court of the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) in Bhubaneswar on October 8.
It is pertinent to mention here that the local traders’ association had staged a road block following the brutal murder of Sahu. Locals had demanded immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the murder that had sent shockwaves across the city for it’s brutality.
Two miscreants were caught on camera chasing Sahu before hacking him to death.
“Our probe revealed that the murder was the fallout of the ongoing business rivalry. We are probing the involvement of others in the case,” said Bishnu Patra, a senior Commissionerate Police official.
