Odisha Records Highest COVID-19 Cases As 34 More Test Positive On A Day

Bhubaneswar: The total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Odisha rose to 219 on Thursday as in a single day spike, 34 fresh cases were reported in the State, informed the State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department.

As many as 24 positive cases were detected in Ganjam district today, taking the COVID-19 positive cases in the district to 28. The southern Odisha district has been witnessing a massive influx of migrants post Lockdown 2.0.

All the positive cases (23 male & 1 female) reported from Ganjam are Surat returnees and currently in quarantine, informed Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department, Odisha.

Three more coronavirus cases were detected today in Bhubaneswar, which had last reported a COVID-19 positive case on April 29. The new cases were reported from Mancheswar, VSS Nagar and Suryanagar area of the Smart city.

Now, the total COVID-19 cases in Khurda district stand at 50, of which 32 have recovered while two succumbed to the disease.

Mayurbhanj district, which was one of the Green zones in the State, today reported four positive cases. All the positive cases reported from the district are male and Surat returnees.

Besides, two COVID-19 cases were reported in Balasore and one from Jagatsinghpur district. The patients from Balasore include a 26-year-old male and a 29-year-old male who are Surat returnees while the positive case from Jagatsinghpur is a 70-year-old male with a travel history to West Bengal. The total positive cases in Balasore and Jagatsinghpur now stand at 27 and five, respectively.

Of the total cases in the State, Jajpur district tops the list with 55 cases, followed by Khurda at 50, Balasore 27, Bhadrak 21 and Sundergarh at 12. Jagatsinghpur has reported five cases while Kendrapara recorded three cases so far.
