Bhubaneswar: Even as Odisha is seeing a massive jump in COVID-19 cases over the last couple of weeks, the number of patients getting cured of coronavirus infection has also registered a sharp upward trend which is likely to evade fear in the minds of people in the State. As many as 99 COVID-19 patients recuperated in Odisha on Monday, taking the total cure count to 649. This is the first time the State recorded so many recoveries in a single day.

As per the data shared by Health and Family Welfare Department, highest 34 COVID-19 patients recovered in Balasore and followed by 15 in Ganjam district.

Ganjam district, which witnessed a steep hike in COVID-19 cases following the return of migrants, now has the highest recovery cases in the State. Out of the total 649 recoveries in the State, a highest 248 persons have recovered in Ganjam district, followed by 103 in Jajpur, 91 in Balasore, 51 in Khurda and 40 in Bhadrak.

Four districts in Odisha have registered 100 plus COVID-19 positive cases with highest 353 cases being reported from Ganjam district. The three other districts which have 100 plus COVID cases include- Jajpur (240), Balasore (133) and Bhadrak (106).

Earlier, 103 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha in the past 24 hours. It is for the first time that the State has recorded the highest-ever single-day spikeof COVID cases recorded so far.

Deogarh district reported 22 COVID positive cases in the last 24 hours followed by Kendrapara with 15 cases, Jagatsinghpur 10, Malkangiri 9, Bhadrak 8, Bolangir 8, Gajapati 6, Koraput 6, Balasore 5, Khurda 5, Ganjam 4, Jajpur 1, Kandhamal 1, Dhenkanal 1, Mayurbhanj 1, and Keonjhar 1 case. Of the new 103 cases, 96 cases have been reported from quarantine centres while seven are local cases.

The total COVID-19 tally in Odisha has now reached 1438. Out of the total positive cases, 782 are active cases while 649 patients have recovered. Seven persons have died due to COVID-19 in the State.
