Bhubaneswar: Another green zone- Jagatsinghpur, which had so far managed to remain untouched by the novel coronavirus, reported maiden cases after four persons in the district were tested positive on Wednesday.

State Information and Public Relations Department informed that the four cases include a 26-year-old male, a 32-year-old male, a 30-year-old male and a 47-year-old male. All of them have returned from Surat and are currently under mandatory quarantine.

After a brief lull, Kendrapara district too registered another coronavirus positive case today taking the total number of cases in the district to 3. Two persons who had earlier tested positive have already recovered.

The fresh positive case in Kendrapara is a 60-year-old male who has a travel history to Kolkata. Contact tracing of the fresh cases and follow-up action is being carried out, the I&PR department informed.

A total of nine cases have been reported in the State today. While two cases were detected in Jajpur district, one case each was detected in Ganjam and Balasore. With this, Odisha’s Covid-19 tally has mounted to 185 with 122 active cases, 2 deaths and 61 cured/discharged. As of now, the COVID-19 has spread its tentacles to 17 districts in the State.

Earlier today, a patient of Madhusudan Nagar in Bhubaneswar succumbed to the disease. As per the State Health Department, the deceased was a 77-year-old male who had underlying co-morbidities of hypertension, diabetes and kidney disease.

On the other hand, a 60-year-old COVID-19 patient from Suryanagar area in Bhubaneswar, who had earlier tested negative but was under treatment for other ailments was discharged from hospital on May 5. The patient was admitted in a critical condition with history of Asthma, Diabetes Mellitus and hypertension and symptoms suggestive of COVID -19 and he tested positive for COVID-19 on April 1.

After treatment, he was tested negative twice for COVID-19 on April 6 and 8. But he was under treatment for other ailments and yesterday he was discharged from the hospital after getting recovered from his illness, informed AIIMS, Bhubaneswar authorities.
