Bhubaneswar: The novel-Coronavirus has now spread its tentacles to three more districts of Odisha making it a total of 14 districts of the State which have recorded one or more COVID-19 cases.

As per the data shared by Health and Family Welfare department, the three new cases have been detected today belong to Jharsuguda, Keonjhar and Deogarh districts. With the new cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the State rose to 122 today.

The three persons tested positive with COVID-19 have been identified as 60 year male of Panchapalli in Keonjhar, 34 year male of Basudevpur in Deogarh and 18 year female of Brajrajnagar in Jharsuguda. All the three patients were asymptomatic but under quarantine as they had returned from West Bengal recently.


Earlier in the morning, a 77-year-old male of Madhusudan Nagar in Bhubaneswar was tested positive with coronavirus. He was a close contact of Case No. 41 of the capital city.


With the new case, the tally of novel coronavirus cases in Khurda district rose to 47 and all of them belong to Bhubaneswar. While 20 are active cases, 26 have so far recovered and one had succumbed to the virus.

Similarly, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts have reported 19 cases each, followed by Balasore (16), Sundergarh (10), Kendrapara and Kalahandi 2 each & Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Puri and Koraput 1 each case.

Earlier on Tuesday, Odisha reported seven COVID-19 positive cases. While four cases were detected in Sundargarh district, three others were reported in Bhadrak.

Meanwhile, the total number of Covid-19 cases in India climbed to 31,332 on Wednesday morning, the Union Health Ministry said. Of the total cases, 22,629 are active, 7,695 people have recovered, and 1007 people have succumbed to the disease.

As many as 73 deaths and 1897 new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours due to novel coronavirus, the highest death cases in the country till date.
