Lanjigarh: Vedanta Limited’s Lanjigarh business unit on Tuesday observed International Women’s day with a program organized in partnership with Mahashakti Foundation (NGO).

The company invited all the member representatives of 180 Self Help Groups (SHGs) under Project Sakhi to join the event which included over 450 women from the peripheral villages. The company also felicitated women employees and applauded their contributions for the organization while highlighting the importance of a women workforce towards making an organization sustainable in today’s era.

The community celebration at CSR office campus was marked by the lighting of lamp by Jalaj Malpani, Head Finance, Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh, Bimbadhar Sahu, APD DRDA, Kalahandi, Goura Mohan Singh, GM, DIC, Kalahandi, Jyotsna Rani Mishra, lady supervisor, ICDS, Shukla Chakraborty, Principal DAV School, Saraswati Munda, ex-Sarpanch, Lanjigarh and the member representatives of Vedanta Ladies Club, followed by the encouraging speeches by the dignitaries.

Formation of the ‘Federation of women SHG’ was also formally announced during the event. It is noteworthy that currently, more than 1900 women in the periphery are registered with various SHGs promoted by Vedanta under CSR Project Sakhi. They are supported with necessary trainings and requisite resources to go for various income generating activities to sustain their livelihoods and support their families.

Some of the attracting programs during the event included dances by girls, skit performance by the SHG members on various socio-economic issues such as Drive for sanitation and awareness on the importance of SHG & Federation and Child education. During the occasion, Goura Mohan Singh, GM, DIC highlighted on ‘how to develop various enterprises and available Government schemes for a woman entrepreneur’ to the women gathered in the program.

Two stalls were also put up to show case SHG products and Health services rendered to the community through First Aid Centre and MHU facility.

Winners of the various competitions held earlier were awarded by the guests.

Present on the occasion were Vedanta senior management, employees of Vedanta and its partner agencies, NGO members and community leaders of the region.
