New Delhi: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is all set to launch its 4G LTE service in January- a move that is seen as the state-run company's another step to take on Reliance Jio.

“We have a different strategy for 4G like one is to utilize Wi-Fi route of 4G and for that we have already installed 15000 Wi-Fi hotspots which are 4G enabled and second is to go classical route like LTE which we will begin in January,” Gizbot quoted Anupam Shrivastava, Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL, as saying.

ZTE and Nokia will install the 4G equipment by December end in West and South Zone first followed by North and East Zone, said Shrivastava.

BSNL has plans to increase Wi-Fi hotspots up to 100,000 over two years, he added.

Meanwhile, BSNL is offering voice-calling free of cost among other benefits under several of its prepaid recharge plans like unlimited voice calls over a validity period spanning 28 days to 180 days.

Under its Rs 485 plan, it is offering 1 GB of data per day. However, this benefit is applicable for the first 90 days only.
