Sundergarh: Two bike-borne miscreants shot a man at Brahmani Bandha near Sundergarh Town Police Station in the district on Saturday and left him critically injured. After the incident, the attackers fled the scene.

The youth, identified as Abhishek, was on way to his home when the two men fired at him. The incident took place barely 500 mts away from the police station.

Abhishek is undergoing treatment at the district hospital and he is reportedly out of danger.

While it is yet to be confirmed whether the attack is the outcome of an old dispute, police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused.

Earlier this month, a juvenile was detained while two persons were arrested by police for attempting to extort money by posing as Maoists in the district.

The trio had demanded extortion money worth Rs 50 lakh from a school headmaster. They had reportedly threatened the headmaster to blow up the school and abduct students if he did not pay the ransom.

Based on the complaint filed by the school headmaster, police had launched an investigation into the incident and the gang of fake Maoists was nabbed from Lahunipada area.
