Serial killer behind Delang rape, murder sent to judicial custody

Puri: Buddhadeba Behera, the notorious serial killer arrested on charges of raping and murdering five women from various parts of the state and outstate including one at Delang area in Puri district recently on August 1, was sent to jail today.

With advocates of Pipili Bar Association refusing to take up the case of Behera, Pipili JMF court has sent the accused on a 14-day judicial custody in Nimapara jail.

Following the rape and murder of one Anita Nayak in Delang area of Puri, a special team of police launched a manhunt to nab Behera and found him to be involved in other similar cases of rape and murder.

Behera had earlier killed four other girls, one each in Bairi, Nuagaon on Odisha-Jharkhand border, Deogarh and Andhra Pradesh. Police sources said Behera developed friendship with the women and later raped and murdered them.
