Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the festive season, Commissionerate Police on Friday busted an illicit arms racket by arresting three persons.

Two weapons including a mouser and a country made pistol along with three rounds of live ammunition have been seized, police said.

As per police sources, a quick action team busted the gang involved in the illicit arms trade during a raid on the outskirts of the capital city.

The seized weapons were procured by the gang members from Bihar and Puri. The gang had plans to dispose them off at a price ranging from Rs 30,000 to 50,000, informed sources.

All the accused persons of the gang are from Khurda and Pipili areas and they would be soon brought on remand for further interrogation, said Police Commissioner YB Khurania.

The Commissionerate Police has been successful in arresting 48 persons involved in the illicit arms trade during special operations in the last seven months.  27 arms, 37 rounds of ammunition has also been seized in the 25 cases registered under different police stations in Bhubaneswar Urban Police District.
