Notorious criminal injured in encounter

Athagarh: A hardcore criminal, Bhabagrahi Panda, was caught injured in a police encounter here inside Haridaposi forest under Tigiria police limits in Cuttack district late last night.

Bhabagrahi was shot at on his two legs during a police search operation. He was initially admitted to Athagarh hospital and later shifted to Cuttack SCB after his condition worsened.

As per sources, Bhabagrahi initially started firing when he confronted the cops. Police retaliated and shot rounds at the criminal. During the faceoff Officer in Charge (OIC) of Tigiria PS has also been reportedly injured.

There are number of criminal cases against Bhabagrahi at various police stations including a bomb hurling case and attempt to murder, attacking a shop at Nuapatana, sources said.
