Cuttack: Commissionerate Police on Thursday busted an inter-district motorcycle lifting gang that was operating in the twin city of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar for the last couple of years.

Senior officials claimed that members of the gang are mostly teenagers in the age group of 18 to 20 years. So far two members of the gang have been arrested while 17 stolen vehicles have been recovered from their possession.

The arrested have been identified as Banty Roul and Chandan Kishore Beura.

Both the accused were arrested during a routine patrolling near OMP square last night. During investigation it came to light that the duo was travelling towards OMP square on a stolen vehicle.

Senior officials informed that the duo worked for Prakash Padhiary and used to lift motorcycles from Mancheswar, Rasulgarh, Laxmisagar, Malisahi, Badagad and other parts of Bhubaneswar.

The gang then used to dispose of the stolen bikes under Cuttack Sadar police limits.

“It is an eight to ten member gang which mostly lifts two wheelers from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. We have identified a few buyers of the stolen vehicles and are hopeful to recover another 30 to 40 motorcycles,” said Inspector-in-charge of Chauliaganj police limits, Ajay Das.
