Launching a salvo at the opposition parties, the Chief Minister, said, “They are maligning the state government. No one has ever been successful by opposing development. The people of Odisha have come to know the true nature of the opposition parties.”
Responding to the call of samiti member of Kanchana panchayat, Chitrasen Ghose, over 8,000 BJD workers including sarpanchs of five panchayats joined the BJP.
Draped in traditional yellow cloths, holding peacock feathers in hands and carrying red/yellow flags, these are Danduas or Bhokatas who are participants of Danda Jatra, one of the most famous traditional festivals of Ganjam district in Odisha.
Over 300 BJD workers of Khallikote and Kabisuryanagar, owing allegiance to Deo, joined the BJP in the presence of the party’s state unit president Manmohan Samal, Berhampur MP candidate Pradeep Panigrahi and Aska MP candidate Anita Subhadarshini at the BJP office in Bhubaneswar.
The mishap occurred while cooking was underway at the house of Prashant Kumar Behera in the evening. According to the family members, gas leaked from the cylinder and later it caught fire.
The villagers have threatened to boycott the polling process if their problems are not resolved at the earliest.

BJD leader and former Khallikote MLA Purna Chandra Sethy accused the party of sidelining him before crossing over to the saffron party on Monday. Sethy was reportedly aspiring for a BJD ticket this time. Earlier, another BJD leader Bipin Pradhan of Digapahandi joined the BJP.
