Normal life has been severely affected in southern Koraput district of Odisha with the mercury sliding to record low degrees. Semiliguda town of the district witnessed the coldest night of the season on Tuesday with a temperature of 6.4 degree Celsius.
Sharing information about the prevailing cold wave conditions in the State, the Bhubaneswar regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that mercury has plummeted below 14 degree in as many as nine places.
G.Udaygiri in Kandhamal district emerged as the second coldest place in the State with a night temperature of 8 degree Celsius while district headquarters Phulbani recorded 10 degree Celsius.
Other places which logged temperature below 14 degree Celsius are Koraput (10 degree Celsius), Daringbadi (10.5 degree Celsius), Bhawanipatna (12 degree Celsius), Boudh (12 degree Celsius), Jharsuguda (13.2 degree Celsius) and Keonjhar (13.4 degree Celsius).
The weather bureau said there will be no large change in minimum temperature and it is likely to be below normal by 2 to 4 degree Celsius at many places over the districts of Odisha during next 4 to 5 days.
It added that shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri for the next two days.
The weather office also shared latest update on the formation of a low pressure. It said that under the influence a cyclonic circulation, a low pressure area is likely to form over Southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood today (November 16, 2022).
