In an unusual case of drug smuggling, Odisha Police in Bolangir district’s Titilagarh foiled an attempt to transport ganja worth over Rs 2 lakh, concealed directly on human bodies.
According to reports, six young men arrived at the Titilagarh railway station during routine checks when officers noticed a strong odour of ganja emanating from them. Suspicious of their behaviour, the police conducted a thorough inspection and made a shocking discovery.
Investigators found packets of ganja meticulously wrapped in stickers and strapped onto the suspects’ bodies, even hidden under their shorts, in an apparent attempt to evade detection. The seized contraband was estimated to be worth more than Rs 2 lakh.
Police have detained all six individuals and initiated further investigation to determine the source and intended destination of the smuggled ganja.
Value Of Seized Contrabands
Police sources confirmed that the total quantity of ganja recovered from the six suspects is estimated at Rs 2,22,000 in market value.
The seizure is reportedly part of an ongoing investigation by Titilagarh police officials, who are attempting to trace the source and network behind this unique smuggling attempt.
Reports cited that the seizure was unlike anything else encountered before in Titilagarh. However, police thwarted the reported smuggling bid at the station.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have lodged formal complaints against the six individuals under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Further investigations are underway to determine whether this was a localised smuggling attempt or part of a larger drug trafficking ring operating across Bolangir and nearby districts.
Police have also intensified random body checks and surveillance at key transit points in Titilagarh, warning that such unconventional smuggling methods will not be tolerated.
