Mamita Meher murder case: Family demands CBI probe after accused’s daughter alleges foul play after meeting CM

The murder case of Kalahandi school teacher and principal Mamita Meher is again in the spotlight after her parents demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe following new developments in the case.

Speaking to OTV, Meher’s parents expressed anguish over the handling of the investigation so far and alleged that justice is yet to be delivered.

Parents Call For Meeting With CM

“Ever since we lost our child, we have been in sorrow. We will find some solace if justice is provided. We definitely want to meet the Chief Minister. Our health condition is preventing us from actively seeking a meeting with him, but there is no doubt that we are living in anguish over Mamita’s death,” said Meher’s mother.

The Meher family members said that they plan to meet Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, following assurances from the state leadership to consider their request.

Earlier, during the previous BJD government’s rule, several BJP leaders, including CM Mohan Majhi, had pressed for an inquiry into the case, which they alleged also involved former BJD minister of state for home, Dibya Shankar Mishra.

Allegations Raised By Accused’s Daughter

The renewed demand for a CBI probe comes a day after Lipika Sahu, daughter of the late prime accused Gobinda Sahu, met Chief Minister Majhi and alleged that her father’s death in Kantabanji Sub-Jail in December 2022 was orchestrated to suppress evidence in the case. 

Lipika alleged that such police misconduct was influenced by political directives from the former BJD Minister of State (MoS) for Home. She maintained that her father had been made a scapegoat and asserted that the real perpetrator, who killed Mamita Meher, was also responsible for her father’s death.

Replying to this development, Mamita Meher’s father added that, “They (Lipika and her family) must be knowing something for which they have given such statements. We only know what the police have told us so far, including the IIC, who has been very cooperative on this matter.”

Background of the case

Mamita Meher reportedly clashed with Gobinda Sahu after uncovering proof of his illicit relationship with a girl she knew. When Meher attempted to warn the girl, Sahu allegedly conspired to eliminate her.

The case has attracted attention due to allegations of political influence, the custodial death of the accused, and the slow pace of justice under the previous administration.
