Airfares on multiple routes from Bhubaneswar have climbed steeply following the ongoing IndiGo operational crisis, with tickets that were priced between Rs 7,000 and Rs 15,000 a week earlier now being quoted at several times those levels.
The surge in pricing has forced passengers to purchase high-priced seats as cancellations and rescheduling continue nationwide, reported sources.
Bhubaneswar Fares Go Sky-High
According to the latest available ticket rates checked on Saturday, the rise is visible across major destinations.
Bhubaneswar–Bengaluru airfares, which previously ranged between Rs 7,000 and Rs 12,000, have now surged to over Rs 30,000. Bhubaneswar–Chennai fares have crossed Rs 18,000, up from the earlier Rs 7,000–Rs 12,000 bracket, while Bhubaneswar–New Delhi tickets have risen to above Rs 24,000 compared to around Rs 15,000 earlier.
Similarly, Bhubaneswar–Mumbai fares have climbed to more than Rs 25,000, up from the earlier Rs 7,000–Rs 15,000 range. Bhubaneswar–Kolkata tickets now exceed Rs 14,000, compared with about Rs 8,000 previously, and Bhubaneswar–Hyderabad fares have shot up to over Rs 25,000 from roughly Rs 10,000 earlier.
Passengers Report Disruptions And Missing Luggage
Ground reports stated that at the IndiGo counter in Bhubaneswar airport, several passengers expressed dissatisfaction over abrupt cancellations and delayed baggage delivery.
One passenger who travelled Bhubaneswar–Hyderabad–Bhubaneswar said the return journey ended without luggage being handed over. Similar stories dotted the airport today as hapless passengers continued to push for a resolution.
Fifth Day Of Nationwide Disruption
IndiGo Airlines’ operational crisis entered its fifth consecutive day on Saturday, resulting in large-scale delays, repeated cancellations and stranded passengers at airports including Delhi, Mumbai and Pune.
Many travellers seeking urgent connections said they received no firm restoration timelines from counters despite multiple enquiries. Videos showing arguments between passengers and airline staff have circulated on social media during the week-long disruption.
Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that a high-level inquiry is underway and said normal operations are expected to resume within the next three days.
Apart from this, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has directed IndiGo to clear all pending passenger refunds without delay.
The Ministry has mandated that the refund process for all cancelled or disrupted flights must be fully completed by 8:00 PM on Sunday, 7 December 2025.
Airlines have also been instructed not to levy any rescheduling charges for passengers whose travel plans were affected by cancellations. The Ministry has clarified that any delay or non-compliance in refund processing will invite immediate regulatory action.
