Cold wave relents as night temperatures rise across Odisha

After days of biting cold, the severe winter conditions have eased, bringing much-needed relief to people across the state. The intensity of the cold wave has reduced since last night, following a noticeable change in temperatures.

For the past several days, residents had been struggling with harsh and uncomfortable cold weather. However, a gradual rise in the mercury since late last night has led to a decline in the chilling conditions, offering respite from the bone-chilling cold.

According to the Meteorological Department, the change in weather was anticipated due to the influence of an active deep depression system. Upper-level cloud cover associated with this system had earlier contributed to fluctuations in temperature, and the department had indicated that the prevailing conditions would lead to a moderation in the cold spell.

Weather officials further explained that an increase in moisture-laden winds flowing into the state has played a key role in pushing temperatures upward. This influx of humid air has weakened the cold wave conditions that had dominated the region over the last few days.

As per the latest forecast issued by the Meteorological Department, dry weather is likely to prevail across the state until January 16. No major rainfall activity is expected during this period, and temperatures are expected to remain relatively stable, providing continued relief from extreme cold.

Authorities have advised people to remain cautious during early morning and late night hours, as mild winter conditions may still persist in some areas, even as the overall severity of the cold continues to subside.
