Cuttack: Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Samir Dash has ordered a probe after a school headmaster in Cuttack reportedly shared a link of some objectionable content on a WhatsApp group created for students for online study.
The WhatsApp group was created to provide online teaching to Class V students as a part of government's digital learning push amid Covid-19 pandemic. According to sources, the school headmaster allegedly posted the link of objectionable content on the group during an online class.
The act of the school headmaster has evoked sharp reactions from the guardians as well as students.
Arun Sethi, managing committee member of Pyarimohan Academy School said, “I spoke to the teachers over phone and they admitted that such incident has happened. The teachers further said that the headmaster has asked them to immediately delete the link from the WhatsApp group.”
“The group was created for online teaching and class teachers were the administrators of the group. The headmaster shared a link of a site containing vulgar pictures,” said another managing committee member, Abasaba Noor.
“The headmaster has ruined the image of the school. We want stringent action against him,” he added.
Speaking to OTV over phone, minister Samir Dash said, “I learnt about the incident through social media that the school headmaster has sent a vulgar message on the WhatsApp group during an online class. I have immediately asked Cuttack district education officer (DEO) to inquire into the matter and submit a report by Monday.”
