Berhampur: With COVID-19 cases going through the roof in the state, Odisha BJP has reiterated that the ruling BJD-government should rise above politics and seek Centre’s help to fight the pandemic.
Speaking to media, BJP State General Secretary Bhrugu Buxipatra said, “When Delhi lost its grip on coronavirus crisis management, Aam Admi Party (AAP) approached Home Minister Amit Shah for help. Similarly, the Odisha government should now seek Centre’s help in managing the crisis and curb the spread of virus in the State.”
Launching a scathing attack on Naveen Patnaik-led government, the saffron party leader said, “Even though the situation remains grim in Ganjam, the BJD government is not paying any heed to our demands.”
He further stated, “After demands grew louder, the government announced to set up a 100-bedded hospital for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. Fifteen days are on, the hospital is only on pen and paper. Moreover, we have demanded to increase the testing in the district, that also is falling on deaf ears.”
“The state government has failed in all aspects to put a brake on the spread of the virus. The OPD is closed. Earlier, they used to not reveal the exact COVID-19 figures, now hiding deaths due to virus,” Mohapatra alleged.
The BJP leader also condemned Odisha Police’s move to lodge FIR against Sambalpur BJP MLA Jayanarayan Mishra and his Rengali counterpart Nauri Nayak on charges of violating COVID-19 guidelines.
Notably, with total 9,996 COVID-19 cases, Ganjam is the worst-hit district in the State. While 6,699 persons have recovered from COVID-19, 3201 are active cases. So far, the virus has claimed 90 lives in the district, the highest in Odisha.
