Bhubaneswar: With the likely formation of a low-pressure area over the east-central Bay of Bengal by Tuesday, the Meteorological Department on Sunday informed that the Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim and some parts of North-eastern states by next week.
The national weather forecasting agency has informed that conditions are becoming favourable for further advancement of Southwest monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, Goa, some parts of Konkan, some parts of Karnataka, Rayalaseema, remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, some parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, some more parts of central & north Bay of Bengal and some parts North-eastern states during next 2 – 3 days.
"The Southwest monsoon will subsequently move into some more parts of Maharashtra, some more parts of Karnataka, some more parts of Telangana, some more parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, remaining parts of Bay of Bengal and North-eastern states, Sikkim, some parts of Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during subsequent 2 days," said a bulletin issued by the IMD.
The Met department has further mentioned that a cyclonic circulation over the east-central Bay of Bengal & adjoining north Andaman Sea now lies over the east-central Bay of Bengal and extends up to mid-tropospheric level.
Under its influence a low-pressure area likely to form over the east-central Bay of Bengal during next 48 Hrs. It is likely to move west north-westward and become more marked during the subsequent 24 hours.
In view of the movement of the system, the weather forecaster has issued Yellow Warning for several parts of Odisha with the forecast of light to moderate thundershower during the next 4 days and Orange Warning for June 11 and 12 with the prediction of heavy to very heavy rainfall for several districts.
Squally weather with wind speed 40-50 kmph very likely over North and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal & off Odisha coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea, along and off Odisha coast, North and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal from 10th onwards till further notice. Whoever in deep-sea, are advised to return to the coast by 9th June, 2020.
Weather experts at Bhubaneswar Met Centre, Umashankar Das informed that many places of Odisha have received low to moderate amount of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Junagarh of Kalahandi has recorded the maximum of 7 cm of rainfall while Sorada of Ganjam has recorded 6 cm of rain during the period.
